Work it by hand
A Trixie on A, B and C is AB + AC + BC + ABC. If C loses you still have the AB double. A Patent adds A, B and C as singles. A Lucky 15 is every combination of four names including the four singles. Count them: C(4,1)+C(4,2)+C(4,3)+C(4,4) = 4+6+4+1 = 15.
Each-way is a second identical card at place odds. Place 1/5 of 5/2 is 1/2 — decimal 1.50 instead of 3.50. If three of four are placed and one wins, the place half of the Lucky 15 still pays its doubles and singles while the win half is mostly dead. That is why each-way Lucky 15s stay popular on big-field handicaps.
