Parent 5Dimes — historically William Sean Creighton; Laura Varela after 2019
Costa Rica–based US-facing book founded by William Sean “Tony” Creighton. Creighton was kidnapped in 2018 and found dead in 2019. His widow Laura Varela took the assets. September 2020: US Attorney EDPA announced a non-prosecution agreement and forfeiture of more than $46.8 million of proceeds. Costa Rica does not issue an online gambling licence — a local company is not a UKGC or a US-state permit. 2021 reporting said an Isle of Man licence was obtained; confirm the live IoM register before treating that as current. Not a US state sportsbook.
Late-1990s offshore book, known for reduced juice. 2020 DOJ settlement. Still the .ag brand. Taking a US player from Costa Rica is not the same object as FanDuel.

Sanctions / record
2020-09-30 US DOJ — $46.8 million forfeiture / non-prosecution agreement. The US Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania announced that the Costa Rica–based sportsbook 5Dimes agreed to forfeit more than $46.8 million of proceeds and entered a non-prosecution agreement covering years of taking bets from Americans without a US licence. Owner Laura Varela (widow of founder William Sean Creighton) was cleared of personal wrongdoing in that announcement.
Costa Rica is not a gambling licence. The company sat in Costa Rica. That jurisdiction does not issue a remote gambling permit comparable to UKGC, MGA or a US state compact. 2021 trade press reported an Isle of Man licence; confirm the live IoM register before treating it as current.
