Denise Coates launched bet365 in 2000 from a portable building in Stoke after mortgaging the family's Provincial Racing shop estate. The retail shops were later sold and capital recycled into the online business, which pioneered in-play betting and live streaming at scale. It remains one of the world's largest privately held gambling companies, with FY25 revenue reported around £4.0 billion and no sister sportsbook brands.
